The author is known for his parodies. Here he begins a series about three boys from Brooklyn, Joe, Sam, and Fred, who are able to go back in time through the power of a book given to Joe by his magician uncle. These first two stories take us back to Camelot and Blackbeard's ship respectively. Filled with satire, slapstick, juvenile humor, as well as a bit of history, these works should delight everyone. Bill Dufris's reading is delightful, immediately grabbing the listener's attention. He gives the boys (especially Joe) cocky Brooklyn accents, the knights stuffy British accents, and a stupid giant a voice befitting his lack of mental capability. His rendering of the pirates is just as adroitly done. The kids will be in stitches, as will the adults. M.T.F. © AudioFile 2001, Portland, Maine [Published: JUN/JUL 01]
