January LaVoy's narration is a fine match for Lisa Scottoline's prose. A 13-year-old genius named Allegra, her dysfunctional family, a young man who may have been wrongly convicted of killing Allegra's sister, and attorney Mary DiNunzio are the centerpieces of this book. The combination could make for a real tragedy, but LaVoy's bright performance of Scottoline's humorous writing leads listeners to expect that things will turn out well in the end. LaVoy deftly handles the many characters, including three elderly gentlemen with bathroom issues and the female lawyers of Rosato & Associates--although the loud voice she uses for one geriatric gent can be annoying. This book is a fine diversion. G.S.D. © AudioFile 2013, Portland, Maine [Published: NOVEMBER 2013]
