Ed McBain propels us through a bizarre smorgasbord of murder. Jonathan Marosz's effortless reading brings together police detection and prime suspect Marilyn Hollis, a sexually abused and world-weary woman with a lifestyle financed by South American drug money. She has nonetheless managed to remain pure, alluring, and psychically intact, attracting the interest of Detective Hal Willis, of the 87th Precinct, an easy target for the femme fatale. Marosz uses timely pauses to give the listener an opportunity to absorb material. His character portrayal and differentiation are unsurpassed, and his Spanish is fluent with an impeccable accent.
