MY STUBBORN HEART

When Kate accompanies her grandmother to Pennsylvania to renovate their family home, she finds herself embarking on a relationship with Matt--an ex-professional hockey player who is now playing local handyman. Narrator Kate Forbes's inconsistent reading of this Christian romance seems at odds with the characters and the story. Awkward spots of dead air, due to oddly timed pauses or uneven editing, create a jerkiness in the narrative that disrupts the flow. In the moments that her narration is fluid, Forbes's reading offers distinct voices for the characters and captures the essence of Kate and Matt's respective journeys with God and grief.
