CONFESSIONS OF AN UNMANAGER

Through a long vignette portrayed by actors, the authors describe how one manager transformed a traditional manufacturing plant into one managed in a more humane and effective way. By "unmanaging" rather than directing, those in charge can create work teams that communicate more freely, learn from their mistakes, and feel accountable for achieving measurable business goals. These and other management principles are illustrated effectively by the ongoing story of "Trisha," and by the clear explanations given for each step in her change effort. The authors also provide some great ideas about how to implement the changes and many realistic examples of how organizations resist such efforts.
