Part of a larger collection of essays and other short pieces, these writings illustrate Lewis’s conjecture that “culture is a storehouse of the best sub-Christian values." Ralph Cosham narrates well, but he has a few vocal tics that make comprehension a challenge. His habit of dropping the volume of the final word or syllable in a sentence sometimes makes it difficult to understand Lewis's word choices. Further, some sentences are prefaced with "uh," which also causes confusion and distracts from the listening experience. Nonetheless, Lewis’s work is incisive, and his fans will enjoy this illuminating collection. S.M.M. © AudioFile 2014, Portland, Maine [Published: JANUARY 2014]
