HANGING TIME

M.J. Wilde's voice is just right for this psychological mystery set in New York City, part of a series by Leslie Glass. While tracking a killer who defies psychiatric profiles, Detective April Woo also copes with NYPD power struggles; her disapproving mother, Skinny Dragon; and an unsettling attraction to mentor Mike Sanchez. Wilde's dramatic reading deftly underscores the action, insight, and humor. At times she races, but overall her timing enhances emotion. Expertly employing accent, texture, and rhythm, she individualizes a wide array of voices, bringing fully realized characters to life. Best of all, she sounds as if she's having fun.
