Janet Metzger gives a heartfelt performance in this story of rediscovering lost treasures. Newly widowed Kate wakes from a fog of grief and, prompted by an old postcard from her Great-Aunt Eby, heads to Lost Lake Cottages, with daughter Devin in tow. Metzger's Southern accents and variety of boisterous and genteel voices capture the eclectic personalities of townsfolk, while her alluring voice and smooth reading convey the tranquility of the lake community. Eight-year-old Devin's account of experiences with the mysterious Alligator Man are portrayed with a restraint and deft pacing that add to the haunting dimension of the story. Listeners will be charmed. M.F. © AudioFile 2014, Portland, Maine [Published: JANUARY 2014]
