TEN WOMEN

In this lyrical novel, the lilting rhythm of the original Spanish is captured in translation in the narration of Marisol Ramirez. Her treatment of Spanish words and names lends credibility to the story. Ramirez's voice has a raspy, husky quality that suits the author's overall sensuous tone. Listeners who enjoy works by Isabel Allende or Sandra Cisneros will find much to admire in this title. Ramirez weaves the individual stories of 10 women, varying her pitch, tone, and pace to give each character individuality. Her deliberate pace and modulated tones for the therapist Natasha, who brings all the women together, establish a meditative quality in the overall delivery.
