THE BITE IN THE APPLE A Memoir of My Life With Steve Jobs

The high school friend and, later, lover of Apple's founder, Steve Jobs, as well as the mother of his first child, offers a weak and tepid memoir. Narrator Coleen Marlo's empathetic tone and smooth pace cannot save this whiny examination of Brennan's and Jobs's complex relationship. Sadly, little insight is provided into either of the protagonists' personalities, emotions, values, or motivations. Stories of Jobs's purported cruelty pervade all, with special emphasis reserved for his initial denial of paternity of his daughter with Brennan. Despite Marlo's precise performance, this is a dull listen, but it may appeal to those who wish to revisit the tail end of the 1970s Love Generation through a haze of LSD-laced experiences.
