Murders, and plenty of attempts, are hazards of the road for a caravan heading across India shortly before WWI. With his gentle British accent, Michael Healey captures the witty dialogue and observations of the author. He also deftly switches between the voices of an American reporter's memoir and an omniscient narrator. While Healey underplays the danger of an assassination plot, he kicks into high gear in time for an exciting conclusion. Listeners simply looking for a mystery might prefer checking out the print version of this work. However, those interested in witty dialogue and glimpses of life in colonial India will be intrigued by Healey's reading. J.A.S. © AudioFile 2014, Portland, Maine [Published: MARCH 2014]
