Disillusioned, 30-something Sarah is plodding through life when a stranger shows up on her doorstep and sends her on various time-traveling missions. Narrator Penelope Rawlins's lively reading offers a full spectrum of highly modulated voices that inhabit her characters and convey the humor and sensitivity of the story. In addition to the sympathetic voice for the male protagonist, Rawlins offers credible accents for a variety of characters--from the upper class of Edwardian society to scullery maids and an American pioneer woman, as well as Sarah's own ironic imitation of a powerful munchkin figure. It's unfortunate, however, that much of the energy of Rawlins's performance is frequently interrupted by editing errors. M.F. © AudioFile 2014, Portland, Maine [Published: FEBRUARY 2014]
