Listeners who have never heard David Sedaris deliver his saga of working as an elf at Macy's during Christmas are in for a treat, and listeners who have heard it know just how good it is. "SantaLand Diaries" comprises the first hour of this collection of stories, and it's the star of the show. Sedaris delivers his own material masterfully, hitting the beats of every joke and observation perfectly. His rendition of "Away in a Manger" as sung by Billie Holiday is a standout moment—flawless and unique to audio, it simply must be heard. A live performance of "Six to Eight Black Men," about the culturally garbled history of Saint Nicholas, is another highlight.
