Susan Boyce offers a satisfying narration of this romantic mystery. Samantha Bennett arrives in Knights Bridge, Massachusetts, with a secret: She’s in search of treasure left by the legendary Captain Faraday. After she’s rescued from a burning mill by firefighter Justin Sloan, he finds out her true reasons for being in town. Narrator Susan Boyce provides enough vocal range to distinguish the protagonists—the levelheaded Bennett and her unflappable firefighter—from the large assortment of other characters. Boyce also provides a proper English accent for the seductive Lady Elizabeth. While the story has some weak spots, Boyce’s narration is clear and steady, which makes even the slow unraveling of the town’s history enticing.
