56 Joe Dimaggio and the Last Magic Number in Sports

Joe DiMaggio's 56-game hitting streak with the New York Yankees in 1941 still stands as one of the greatest achievements in sports. Kennedy's account of "Joltin' Joe's" marvelous feat is filled with entertaining anecdotes that are delivered with a little too much enthusiasm by narrator Kevin T. Collins. His narration is well paced, but it would have been stronger without the melodramatic phrasing and awkward accents. Kennedy does a fine job evoking the spirit of what was a remarkable year in wartime America and in a memorable baseball season.
