When Lisette Roux follows her husband to a small village in Provence to care for his ailing grandfather, Pascal, she imagines that they'll soon return to Paris, and their life will be just as it has always been. Narrator Kim Bubbs is a lovely match for Lisette's story of self-discovery fueled by art, tragedy, and the community she finds in her Provençal village. Despite being set against the backdrop of WWII, Lisette's story is often quite quotidian. Bubbs's narration imbues it with a great deal of heart so that the quiet drama of Lisette's life becomes increasingly absorbing. J.L.K. © AudioFile 2014, Portland, Maine [Published: AUGUST 2014]
