Fitzek is a German writer, and THE CHILD is set in Berlin. As this is a British production, all the characters have UK regional accents. The audio experience is like listening to an extended radio play divided into chapters. The acting is solid, and the twists and turns of the plot engrossing, but the sound effects are distracting rather than enhancing, and the subject matter often unpalatable. Simon (Jack Boulter) is a 10-year-old with a brain tumor. He's convinced he has murdered in a previous life. His nurse, Corinna (Emilia Fox), introduces him to lawyer Robert Stern (Rupert Penry-Jones) in the hope that he will put Simon's mind at rest. Action-packed and edgy, THE CHILD is a dark and immersive listening journey. C.A.T. 2015 Audies Finalist © AudioFile 2015, Portland, Maine [Published: MARCH 2015]
