The listener, especially one who is familiar with Jamaican patois, will be delighted by the author's narration of this true coming-of-age tale. The Jamaican-born spoken word artist begins her story with her older brother, who is clearly given more opportunities than she is. The quick shifts in the story and Chin's whip-fast delivery put listeners on a roller coaster ride. She energetically varies her pitch to differentiate the multiple characters. Her voice is bold and sharp, even during moments when she purposely stutters to emphasize a point or when she shares the experiences that made her feel the most vulnerable. This enjoyable, and at times uncomfortable, story is worth listening to. T.E.C. © AudioFile 2015, Portland, Maine [Published: MARCH 2015]
