Nisha's life comes unraveled when she discovers she's adopted. For this female-centric story, Justine Eyre is the perfect choice. The listener is continually left in suspense as Nisha's story alternates with chapters told from the perspectives of two other women, Shilpa and Devi. Eyre moves capably between the voices, giving each woman a unique characterization so that the listener remains oriented through the many flashbacks and recollections. She is most successful in bringing to life the vivid personalities of Shilpa and Devi during the period when they live in rural India. Nisha's point of view is delivered in a clipped British accent that distances the listener, but it's clear the narration is faithful to the author's intent.
